Celebrations are fun but can cause anxiety about how and what to eat during the festivities without completely destroying your blood sugar.
Here’s how I eat at weddings and other events:
➡️ Eat good food beforehand to avoid going to the event hungry.
➡️ Pick better-for-the-blood sugar choices-protein, vegetables, cheese, nuts, etc.
➡️ If it’s not what I usually eat, I have to really enjoy it-If the first bite tastes meh, then I don’t finish it. It’s not worth it to me.
➡️ I eat a smaller serving size if it’s something I don’t usually eat. The first few bites are usually the most enjoyable.
➡️ I move! Dance, take a walk, or move around. Since muscles need sugar, they’ll use the sugar in the blood so it won’t get stored (causing fat storage) and it won’t stay in the blood (causing high blood sugar).
If I maintain the lifestyle changes that got rid of my pre-diabetes MOST of the time, occasionally deviating from that won’t have long term negative consequences.
When I go to an event, I have a plan, so I don’t worry or feel guilty. 🙌
